Mathematics
Our goal is for all students at St Michael’s to become confident, proficient, and effective users and communicators of mathematics. We assist our students to investigate, represent and interpret situations in their personal and work lives, think critically, and make choices as active, engaged, numerate citizens. Teachers use a Low Variance Curriculum (LVC) devised by Catholic Education Canberra/Goulburn (CECG) aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Through explicit, direct instruction, teachers develop student competency in number and algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability. Teachers use high impact teaching (HITP) practice including daily review to provide students with activities that consolidate and support numerate thinking. The skills of Mathematics are taught in a daily 1hour block.
