Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week we received a visit from the Director of Catholic Education Ross Fox. It was a great opportunity for Ross to catch up on the wonderful learning we are doing at St Michael’s and to see some of the recent refurbishments. There was time for a chat around curriculum, data and planning, but I think Ross especially enjoyed the school tour with Suraya and Austin, and the visit with our hatching chicks!
Move to Tech One
In the next few weeks St Michael’s will be undergoing a change to the new Finance System - Tech One that is being rolled out across the system. Our wonderful Office Manager Lynda Logan is working through this process, and I want to acknowledge both Lynda and Maria Papasidero for the extra hours going into a new operating system. Long term this should make fee payments and statements easier for families.
Notification of Absences via COMPASS
This is just a reminder for parents to click on the absent notification in COMPASS and send through a reason for the student absence. We currently have many unexplained absences listed on COMPASS. When children are absent from school it is a legal requirement for parents and carers to provide a reason for absence via COMPASS. Please see the flyer below explaining how to use the parent portal on a mobile device. Please do not put in partial day absenses notes, this needs to be done at the kiosk in the Front Office. Let us know if you are having difficulty navigating the App and we are happy to help.

Whole School Focus: Forgiveness
Our Harmony Awards for the next two weeks will celebrate students who display our school value of forgiveness. Having a forgiving heart helps us to let go of pain and heal our relationships. Students will be reflecting on what forgiveness means and the importance of saying sorry and not holding grudges. One way we can express forgiveness is through prayer. Our focus scripture for this term, ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you’ (Ephasians 4:23), reminds us of the importance of forgiveness. This scripture portrays the St Michael’s vision of being a place of compassion, kindness and forgiveness, inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus.
Sunday’s Gospel: The Transfiguration of the Lord
We are currently in Ordinary Time, a time in which we hear Gospel readings around the life and teachings of Christ. This coming Sunday’s reading from Matthew’s gospel (Mt 17:1-9) is the Transfiguration of Jesus. The disciples saw Jesus being transformed on the mountain which took away any doubt they may have had about the divine nature of Christ. They saw that Jesus was fully and truly God, but also became fully human. Transfiguration is not just something that happened to Jesus, we are called to transfigure ourselves to be like Jesus, to grow in virtue and love our neighbour.

Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival
We are proceeding with our plans to again enter teams in this year’s Boorowa touch and netball carnival. It is fantastic day that sees over 4500 students from country and city schools both government and public come to support the town of Boorowa and the wider community. Last week, interested students met with Mrs Hardwicke to find out a little more about the day. If you would like your child to participate please return the permission note via Compass. We will enter teams based on the responses we receive via Compass and ask that you respond by no later than Friday 11th August. Once we have confirmed our numbers we will send teams lists home.
Please note that on some occasions we are unable to enter teams due to not having a sufficient number of players. It is a requirement of the organisers that each team is able to provide a coach, umpire/referee and manager. We are dependent on parent volunteers for these roles, so if you are able to help please let us know by answering the questions on the Compass form. We greatly appreciate your support, but it is even more greatly appreciated by our students.
Parents need to arrange their own transport/car pooling to and from Boorowa. It is 1.5-2hr drive from Canberra.
