Whole School Focus: Forgiveness
Our Harmony Awards for the next two weeks will celebrate students who display our school value of forgiveness. Having a forgiving heart helps us to let go of pain and heal our relationships. Students will be reflecting on what forgiveness means and the importance of saying sorry and not holding grudges. One way we can express forgiveness is through prayer. Our focus scripture for this term, ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you’ (Ephasians 4:23), reminds us of the importance of forgiveness. This scripture portrays the St Michael’s vision of being a place of compassion, kindness and forgiveness, inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus.
Sunday’s Gospel: The Transfiguration of the Lord
We are currently in Ordinary Time, a time in which we hear Gospel readings around the life and teachings of Christ. This coming Sunday’s reading from Matthew’s gospel (Mt 17:1-9) is the Transfiguration of Jesus. The disciples saw Jesus being transformed on the mountain which took away any doubt they may have had about the divine nature of Christ. They saw that Jesus was fully and truly God, but also became fully human. Transfiguration is not just something that happened to Jesus, we are called to transfigure ourselves to be like Jesus, to grow in virtue and love our neighbour.
