Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s great to be home and back with our community and your wonderful children. Participating in the Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with 37 others and Fr. Richard Thompson was an extraordinary and unforgettable experience. I am very grateful for the opportunity and for those who led the school in my absence. I have a short i-movie to show the children at assembly on Friday morning which we will hold in the hall and some small items to share.
Thank you to Tim Cleary for the caretaker role and to Bridgette McCann for her incredible support of Tim. Thanks also to Erika Tokich our newest leadership team member and Religious Education Coordinator who is such an asset to our school community. At this time, we are praying for our students preparing to receive their First Holy Communion, thank you to their families and everyone supporting them on this special journey.
Tell them from me
This week we are inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey.
The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process. We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Michael’s.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You can access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:
http://tellthemfromme.com/h4t63
Parents are welcome to complete the survey in the library if you are popping in to share a book with your child. The survey is also available in several languages, please let us know if this is helpful.
Sporting News
Good luck to our students competing in the Belconnen Region Cross Country Carnival tomorrow. I joined our 5/6 Athletics clinic today and am proud of the way our students are giving their best. Everyone has different abilities but the important point is to have a go and understand that proficiency takes time and practice. Thank you to Erin Hardwicke for her organisation, to the teachers attending and parents and friends for their support.
Rostrum Speeches
Congratulations to all our 5/6 students for their work on Rostrum Speeches this term.
It’s not easy to speak in front of a large group and students worked hard to prepare their speeches, we were certainly impressed with the high standard of speeches.
Congratulations to Suraya S who will represent St Michael’s at the next round.
Ishika G is our runner up and will be ready to step in if needed.
Also a special mention to Hugo H for an excellent speech.
Afternoon gate pick up
Yesterday I reminded students not to run out the gate without checking they have a parent waiting for them. It is a duty of care for us that we ensure we have sited a parent before students leave and a safety issue if children are walking alone across the busy car park area. Thank you to all our parents who ensure we keep our students safe.
Stay warm and well and thank you for your continued support.
Many blessings,
Judy Egan

Religious Education News - Erika Tokich
Pentecost
This coming Sunday the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Pentecost. At Pentecost we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost marks the end of the Easter season and is often called the birthday of the church. It was from this event that Jesus commissioned His disciples to continue his work; to go and spread the good news and establish the Church. At Pentecost, we are also given the gift of Jesus’ Spirit. As Christians we are also called to carry on Jesus’ mission, being disciples and spreading the good news of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Whole School Focus – Live in Harmony
Our Harmony Awards for the next two weeks will celebrate students who display our school value of gratitude. Gratitude is about focussing on our blessings and being thankful for what we have. Students will be encouraged to pause and notice the things we often take for granted such as having a home, food, clean water, family, friends and even material things. Having a grateful heart helps us feel more positive emotions, can change our perspective, improves our mental health and builds strong relationships. One way we can express our gratitude is through prayer. When we offer a prayer of thanks to God, our focus shifts from our problems to our blessings.
"Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Psalm 106:1

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Performance
Last Thursday, our K - 6 students were highly engaged in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Performance enthusiastically performed by Ryka Ali. The performance included participatory dances with students and teachers, and an exploration of various instruments, artefacts, costumes and ‘painting up’ with ochre. As well as performing and teaching dances with audience participation, Ryka skilfully demonstrated how to play the didgeridoo. The performance was a wonderful way for our students to learn more about the oldest living culture in the world.
Also, students will be participating in activities for National Sorry Day (Friday 26th May) and Reconciliation Week (27th May – 3rd June).
If you have any questions regarding Aboriginal Education at St Michael’s, please contact me using the following email. danielle.madsen@cg.catholic.edu.au

Please contact me via email if you have any questions, feedback or are able to offer your assistance at any of our sporting events throughout the year.

We have enjoyed not one but two clinics this week! ACT Athletics have helped us to develop our runnng, shot put and discus techniques and we had a whole lot of fun at our second OZTag clinic. We thank both these sporting oganisations for offering the clinics for us free of charge.
