PUPIL-FREE DAY this Friday 5 August
This day has been provided to teachers by Catholic Education to cater for the hours lost for planning and preparation of learning as relief staff are not available to provide release times or replace staff off work with illness. COVID-19 and the current flu situation are causing major issues in schools and workplaces. We thank you for your support of our school and staff by caring for your children on Friday, please contact me personally if this is an issue for you.
Kinder 100 Days at school today
Congratulations to our Kindergarten Students who today celebrate 100 big days at school this year!
We wish them all the best for their school career and thank our amazing kinder teachers and parents for the great start that they have had in 2022.
COMPASS
The COMPASS system and parent portal has been set up by CE to communicate information quickly to our community. The old system of writing notes if your child is unwell is now replaced by sending us a note via the portal, you can also email your teacher who will update Lynda at the front office. It is important you let us know if your family will be away on holiday or if your child is unwell or diagnosed with COVID-19 etc. You will get a computer-generated email if your child is absent without a reason, this is to remind you to send us a note. Please chat to Lynda if you are unsure, please reach out via phone and we will always do our best to assist.
It looks like we will be getting a deluge of rain tomorrow. In wet weather the pick up is via car line for all students.
Thank you for your continued support, stay safe and well.
Many Blessings

Religious Education News - Meaghan Younger
RE in Kindergarten
In Kindergarten we are exploring what prayer is and how it is important in our life to build our relationship with God. We shared some excellent thinking about how, when, where and why we pray.
We are learning the Our Father and our St Michael’s School prayer and we’d love to teach you these at home to practise.
We made beautiful prayer cloths to help us focus during our morning prayer at school.

Winter Woolies Day – THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you just doesn’t seem enough. Many people will benefit from the generous donations you all made to our Winter Woolies appeal.
We raised over $200 as well as all clothing donations.
The children had a fabulous day learning all about the work of the Night Patrol Van and the serious issue of homelessness.
Thank you to all the staff for your support of the day and making it run so smoothly.
Feast of St Mary MacKillop of the Cross
Monday 8th August is the Feast Day for our Australian saint, St Mary MacKillop of the Cross. Mary Mackillop is known particularly for her work in education, setting up schools for disadvantaged children in rural and remote areas or those too poor to afford schooling in a time when it was often only for the rich. An inspiring role model and Australia’s first home grown saint, we celebrate her feast day each year in schools nationwide. We will hold a digital Whole School Prayer Time for the staff and students at St Michael’s for our morning prayer. Kindergarten are already very busy preparing to lead us in this special Feast Day WSPT. Unfortunately, at this stage we are unable to invite parents to join us for this.

Author Visit
We are excited to welcome Anna Battese to our school on Tuesday, 16th August. Anna will speak to our K-2 classes about her new books and what she loves about being a writer. If you would like to purchase either of Anna’s books please see the attached order form. Anna will personalise and sign the copies on the day of her visit.
Chief Minister’s Reading – Finishing Soon!
Congratulations to all the students who have already completed this year’s challenge! We even have some students who have completed the challenge multiple times and now have more than one entry in our prize draw. There are only 2 weeks to go until the challenge officially ends on the 19th August. All completed forms must be returned to school by no later than Friday 19th August.
Book Fair
We will host our annual book fair in Week 5 from the 15th – 19th August! After a few years of COVID restrictions preventing us having our fair, we are hopeful that this year our fair will still be able to go ahead. We may need to limit the fair to only students but would very much appreciate your support. A generous percentage from the sales comes to the school as rewards and we use this money to purchase additional books for our own library. The students are looking forward to having this much loved event, so we will keep our fingers crossed!
Children's Book Council of Australia Book Week
This year’s theme for Book Week is ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’ and we are very much looking word to our celebrations here at school during Week 6. Our dress up day will be held on Friday 26th August. We encourage students to take inspiration from the theme or from their favourite book. We can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes in the parade!
We are also excited to be welcoming some authors to school to talk to our students about their latest books and what inspires them in their writing.
Overdue Library Books
Thank you to those who have returned overdue library books. Overdue slips will be sent home next week. Thank you for your help with this.
ACT School Sport Trials
Please keep an eye on the ACT School Sport website for a number of trials coming up.
Hockey Clinics
All classes will participate in hockey clinics this term. The clinics will take place on Tuesday from Week 3 – 6 and are being run by ACT Hockey. We successfully obtained and grant from Sporting Schools which is being used to fund the lessons.
Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival
Reminder- Notes on Compass are due back by this Friday 5th August.
We are proceeding with our plans to again enter teams in this year’s Boorowa touch and netball carnival. It is fantastic day that sees thousands of students from country and city schools both government and public come to support the town of Boorowa and the wider community. Today, interested students met with Mrs Hardwicke to find out a little more about the day. If you would like your child to participate please return the permission note via Compass. We will enter teams based on the responses we receive via Compass. Once we have confirmed our numbers we will send teams lists home. Please note that on some occasions we are unable to enter teams due to not having a sufficient number of players. It is also a requirement of the organisers that each team is able to provide a coach, umpire/referee and manager. We are dependent on parent volunteers for these roles, so if you are able to help please let us know by answering the questions on the Compass form. We greatly appreciate your support, but it is even more greatly appreciated by our students.
