Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to the students who have received Rainbow Awards today. These students truly exemplify what it means to give their best and make our school a great place.
A behaviour ‘Guru’
This week we have welcomed Ian Luscombe to St Michael’s to work with us in the area of positive behaviour management. We are reflecting on some of our current practices and looking at ways to improve our student management, always ensuring that our students feel safe and supported. We are working with Ian to set up a parent session.
Assessment and reporting
Thank you to families who booked and attended their interview sessions. The reports will be published via the Compass parent portal today. Please let us know if you experience any issues accessing your child’s report.
Compass
Just a reminder that Compass is now our main platform for communication, it contains information about events and permissions, and keeps families up to date with current information.
Please let us know if you are having any issues and we will support you in using the platform.
Parent Library
We recently sorted some of our parent library books, so if you are interested in borrowing a book for your enjoyment at any time, please feel free to enter via the glass doors in the morning or afternoon pick up/drop off and visit the shelves, just as you enter the library, it is an honesty system. Showing your children that you enjoy books helps them understand the importance of reading.

As we come to the end of a busy term, I want to express my gratitude to everyone in the St Michael’s community for the exceptional way they continue to support and care for each other. Many families have been, and continue to be impacted by health issues, including our staff families. Teacher shortages remain with us, and we continue to look for solutions to this issue. Despite the challenges, St Michael’s remains a place of wonder, hope and peace. Our core values of forgiveness, compassion and kindness, inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus remain at the heart of who we are and how we live. Thank you for the way you trust and support us to help your children learn and grow.
Safe travels and warm wishes to all our families over the break and we look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 19 July.

Parish Sacramental Program 2022
Sacrament of Confirmation (for eligible year 6 students) will be celebrated on 13 September 2022 in St Michael’s Church and 14 September 2022 in St Monica’s Church.
Registration for the Sacrament of Confirmation
Registration must be made via the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Qkr! App (NOT the school app).
Registrations opened on 27 June 2022 and will close by Friday 22 July 2022.
No late registrations will be accepted after the closing date.
Parent Formation Evening – will be held on 21 July at 6pm in St Monica’s Church, Evatt.
Commitment Masses
Candidates and parents must attend one of the weekend Masses at either St Monica’s Church (5pm Saturday or 10am Sunday) or St Michael’s Church (8am or 5.30pm Sunday) on one of the dates listed below to make their commitment for the Sacrament.
Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July
Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July
There will be no additional commitment masses beyond these dates.
Important – If your child is eligible to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation – please talk to your child and prior to completing the registration via Qkr! Consider the following:
- Saint’s Name for Confirmation; and
- Sponsor’s Name.
These are two of the requirements on the registration form.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on 8, 9, & 10 November 2022. Registrations will open on 19 September 2022.

Religious Education
Students in Years 1 & 2 have been learning about the Old Testament this term and they understand it is like a library of different pieces of writing. The children have explored the scriptural stories of Noah’s Ark and Joseph as these two men are key figures in ancient biblical history. They have learned about the ancient land of these stories and what life was like for the people then.
Religious Life of St Michael’s
What a wonderful day last Thursday! After too long the two primary schools in our parish
were able to once again come together to celebrate our parish patron saint’s feast day. Our students in years 3-6 travelled across to St Monica’s and we welcomed the St Monica’s K-2 students here at St Michael’s. Both schools began the day with a liturgy. After morning tea and a chance to make new friends all students participated in fun activities learning more about our shared prayers and the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It was a busy day and we congratulate all the students for their beautiful behaviour and keen participation in the day’s events. We also give huge thanks to all staff for their enthusiasm and support of the day.
Sporting Schools Grant
We are fortunate to have been successful with our Term 3 grant application. We are in the process of organising hockey clinics for all classes for next term.

Congratulations to all the students who received ribbons for their events at the athletics carnival. Well done!
Library News
Save the Date – St Michael’s Book Fair
We are very excited to be able to host our Scholastic Book Fair this year. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the library after the last few years of restrictions and not being able to have our annual fair. The fair will be open from 15-19 of August (Week 5, Term 3).
Overdue Books
We ask that you please gather any overdue library books over the school holidays to return at the start of Term 3.
