Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope you have all survived the downpour in the last week, I’m sure we all know of friends/family who have been doing it tough. We send messages of support to everyone and hope that waters soon subside.
The children really missed getting outside to play this week. It reminded me how important play is for mental health and wellbeing. It was great observing the 5/6 students at camp building a stick bridge across a small shallow gulley and the simple enjoyment that came from testing its strength and working together to achieve a goal.
Michael Gross and Dr Jodi Richardson tell us that in every Australian classroom there are generally 2 children with a diagnosed anxiety disorder. (Anxious Kids, How children can turn their anxiety into resilience.) We cannot underestimate the importance of outdoor play in building resilience and social connections.
Thank you for your continued support and the great way you have been generous in recent initiatives like the Hot Cross Bun fundraiser and the Vinnies Knock on Effect.
Many Blessings
Judy Egan
Harmony Day - Thursday April 1, last day of Term 1.
Harmony Day is an important celebration for St Michael’s. We strive to be a People of Harmony challenged to live as Jesus lived showing compassion, kindness and forgiveness to all in our community. Children are free to come to school dressed in Rainbow Colours to celebrate Harmony Day.
School Photos - Tuesday 30 March
Photo envelopes were sent home last week and photos can now be ordered online, all the information is printed on the envelopes. There are sibling envelopes available at the Front Office, see Lisa if you would like an envelope.
Sibling envelopes and envelopes with money enclosed will need to be dropped into the Front Office before photo day. If you have paid online there is no need to bring back your envelope.
Please remember that photo day is on Tuesday 30th March and all students are required to be in full summer school uniform (NOT sports uniform).
The Knock on Effect
Last Friday our students dressed up and donated money for Vinnies.
This special day was to raise awareness of the vulnerable people in our society and to fundraise for and support Vinnies and the people and communities we assist.
We raised a total of $353.00. Thank you for your generosity!
Project Compassion
Fifth Week of Lent
(school week beginning 22nd March)
Halima is raising her two children in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, while caring for her mother who has a disability. Widowed at 21, Halima fled violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, arriving at the camp with nothing.
Caritas Australia, through Caritas Bangladesh, helped Halima with shelter, cooking equipment, hygiene and sanitation training. She took on the role of community trainer herself, organising the cleaning of washrooms, wells and toilets.
Halima aspired to “Be More” and is proud that she is able to earn a small income, while maintaining the health of her family and the cleanliness of the camp community.
- In the Cox’s Bazar district, women and children make up 78% of the total refugee population where 52% of children are aged 0-17. (UNHCR)
Watch a short film about Halima’s story here.
“Aspire not to have more, but to be more.” Please support Project Compassion: lent.caritas.org.au
Holy Week Reflections
Next Week we will celebrate Holy Week. Classes have been busily preparing reflections that will be shared during class prayer. Classes will also participate in the Stations of the Cross self-guided tour, to look at and discuss these reflections. This will be set up in the hall and teachers will take their class for a visit. Due to ongoing restrictions this will be an in-school event.

It has been a great term in the library with lots of student borrowing. I encourage everyone to keep up the great effort with the Chief Minister's Reading Challenge during the holidays. If overdue books could please be returned before the end of the term, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL SPORT ACT TRIALS – Please keep an eye on the School Sport ACT website https://schoolsportact.org.au/ for upcoming ACT trials. The process for registering can be found below. If you need any assistance registering your child please feel free to ask for assistance.
How to register your child with School Sport ACT
School Sport ACT now collects all registration information online – this is to prevent the movement to and fro of a paper note and have all information readily available to officials prior to the trial. As this process incurs a fee for data storage, system maintenance and admin, a small $5 fee payment via credit card will be required.
- Go to the School Sport ACT website – https://schoolsportact.org.au/
- Click Register (top right corner of homepage) for an Account – enter parent details and password
- A confirmation email will be sent to your chosen email that will contain a link that you must click on to verify the email account.
- Click Log In (top right hand corner of home page) enter password then click on top tab My Profile
- You will see a ‘dashboard’ of your information, click green box to Add Student – enter student and medical details and save.
- Go to the Sports Tab – choose your specific sport, click on Trial Information box then click on the Register to Trial link.
- Select your child’s name from the dropdown box and then enter the optional fields for Playing History, Preferred Position (if applicable) and Representative Experience. If you are already in the system, ensure your child’s school is up to date in your profile – have they moved onto High School?
Please contact me via email if you have any questions, feedback or are able to offer your assistance at any of our sporting events throughout the year.
Looking forward to another big year of sporting participation,
Erin Hardwicke
