Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have all survived the downpour in the last week, I’m sure we all know of friends/family who have been doing it tough. We send messages of support to everyone and hope that waters soon subside.

The children really missed getting outside to play this week. It reminded me how important play is for mental health and wellbeing. It was great observing the 5/6 students at camp building a stick bridge across a small shallow gulley and the simple enjoyment that came from testing its strength and working together to achieve a goal.

Michael Gross and Dr Jodi Richardson tell us that in every Australian classroom there are generally 2 children with a diagnosed anxiety disorder. (Anxious Kids, How children can turn their anxiety into resilience.) We cannot underestimate the importance of outdoor play in building resilience and social connections.
