Dear Parents and Carers,
It was great to see so many families enjoying our Pancake Breakfast, thank you to everyone who helped make it a success!
I’m excited to share with you some very special pieces of Art which we have purchased for St Michael’s. Thank you to Danielle Madsen and Bridgette McCann who set things in motion last year, so that our dream could be a reality.
Firstly, from Wendy Rix,
“a visual artist with a vibrant spirit, painting my stories from the beautiful Queensland, Australia. My roots trace back to Goodooga, New South Wales, a place I fondly call home. I’m a proud descendant of the Yuwaalaraay people and I carry their warmth, strength and wisdom in every stroke of my brush.”

In this vibrant piece, which is part of our assembly space, Wendy dissected our logo sharing a reflection of harmony with the rainbow and hands, together in faith- the journey of all at St Michael’s. She has reflected on connection to country with elements of land and water.
Our second piece is from Leah Brideson, the 2022 ACT and Region NAIDOC Artist of the Year. Leah’s piece is titled ‘Currents, pink’. “The Currents collection is a representation of the shift in learning, rediscovering history and culture, and thinking and knowing through a First nations lens…The currents of positive change are flowing, the ripple effect is reaching further than before, and with this, my own knowledge, identity and connection to my culture grow stronger every day…”

As we celebrate Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten Season, I’m reflective of my childhood where Lent was about ‘giving up’ e.g. no meat on Fridays. It’s so much more powerful to teach our children that Lent is about doing good things for others, and for us as adults, dying to the destructive things in our lives that hold us back from being fully alive and free.
Thank you to Bridgette McCann who takes over the reigns as I attend the Principal’s Conference and Retreat this week. I am so grateful for this generous community, walking together in faith.
Many Blessings as we walk together with open hearts.
