Dear Parents and Carers,
Tomorrow our candidates for Confirmation will be sharing in a Retreat Day with our friends from St Monica’s and the School of Religion. Tomorrow evening, they will share with their families key messages from the day in their final preparations for receiving the sacrament.
One of the topics that we share with our candidates is ‘Charisms’. Presenters use the wording with students of superpowers. Charism comes from the Greek word (charis) used in the New Testament for 'favour' or 'freely given gift' from God. So, charisms, or spiritual gifts, are gifts given through the grace of the Holy Spirit to enable followers of Jesus to become powerful channels of God's love and presence in the world.
We all have Charisms or superpowers, gifts given by God to use in this world to make it a better place. The Holy Spirit calls gently to each of us, like a whisper in our ear, to act for goodness in this world. This is never forced upon us; we are given free-will to make our own choices. In small ways we can use our Charisms to bring peace, love and joy to this world. What are your gifts and how can you share them with your family, workplace and community? As Spring emerges turning buds into blossoms and darkness into light, may we hear the whisper of the Spirit, calling gently to each of us.
Many blessings,
