NAIDOC Week!
To help us celebrate NAIDOC Week (7 – 14 July), Lachie Eveston, Aboriginal Education Officer from Catholic Education, shared with the students a variety of Aboriginal artefacts such as tools, weapons and instruments. He explained to the students how our First Nations Peoples used natural resources to make the artefacts, and the fact that nothing was ever wasted. He also showed the students a kangaroo fur and explained how furs were used for clothing, blankets and to protect Aboriginal people from the rain. The presentation also provided an opportunity for the students to handle the objects and to participate in a yarning circle. Our students greatly enjoyed Mr Eveston’s engaging presentation style and his wealth of knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
