Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you were able to spend some family time over the break and enjoy the beautiful Canberra Autumn colours!
I took this photograph on ANZAC Day last year.
As part of our pilgrimage to the Holy Land, we attended the Dawn Service at Mount Scopus CWG Cemetery at the Jerusalem War Cemetery.
It’s tragic that the relatively peaceful lands we visited in 2023, where Jesus walked, continue a sad history of violence and war. Who knows when it will be safe again to visit this special part of the world.
Last Thursday, I attended the National ANZAC Day Mass at St Christopher’s Cathedral. The photograph shows the Ensign Party entering the cathedral.
ANZAC Day reminds me of the sacrifice of those who have served and the courage of those who continue to put themselves in danger for our safety. I pray that we will build the Kingdom of God by seeking gentleness and peace in our hearts and committing to living in harmony with others.
I would like to share with you the moving words of the Processional Hymn, composed by Cecil Arthur Spring-Rice (1859-1918).
I VOW TO THEE, MY COUNTRY
I vow to thee my country-all earthly things above-
Entire and whole and perfect the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there’s another country, I’ve heard of long ago-
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her king;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
Thank you to Mrs Tokich for organising our ANZAC prayer yesterday. It was great to see family members able to attend in uniform and join us for this important reflection. I look forward to catching up with families at our Working Bee this Sunday,
