Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day
On Tuesday the 27th of June, we celebrated the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day as a Parish community. Students at both schools participated in a liturgy which celebrated Mary Our Lady of Perpetual Help, our Heavenly Mother. We listened to the gospel, sang songs of praise, reflected on what Mary means to us and offered prayers to Mary.
Activities in class included learning about the Our Lady of Perpetual Help icon. The students observed the different colours and symbols in the icon, noting how Jesus is comforted in His mother’s arms. Student’s learnt that like Jesus, they can have confidence in turning to Mary with their troubles. They wrote their own personal prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The 3-6 students used the icon to pray the Visio Divina, a prayer in which we allow the image to speak to our heart. Students also participated in a prayer scavenger hunt and recited prayers including our school prayers and the Hail Mary. It was a wonderful, community day which assisted to deepen the student’s knowledge of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The day was summed up beautifully by a Year One student who was asked how his day was, he replied, “My heart is filled with so much love”.
A big thank you to all teachers and learning support staff from St Monica’s and St Michael’s who helped make the day such a success.
Vinnies Winter Appeal
The 2023 National Vinnies Winter Appeal has officially been launched and on the 22nd of August next term, we will have a Winter Woolies day. On the day all students will participate in workshops run by St Vincent DePaul. The day will raise awareness of homelessness, funds and donations to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Over the holidays, please look through cupboards to see if you could put aside some donations of warm clothes and/or blankets.
