Principal's Page - Judy Egan

      Dear Parents and Carers,

      First Holy Communion

This weekend many of our Year 4 students will celebrate the Sacrament of Eucharist. As part of their preparation the students reflected on the scripture story, Feeding the Five Thousand. (Matt; 14:13-21) With only a few loaves and fish Jesus feeds thousands of people. The story tells us that Jesus is indeed the Messiah and with the little he has, through his faith in God, he performs a miraculous sign. Being open to the grace of Jesus, we too can be signs of love and hope in our community, it only takes small steps, and the willingness to choose to be kind. Congratulations to the children and their families and thank you to Father Loi and everyone involved in their preparation.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day Joint school celebrations

We are excited to be celebrating with our sister school St Monica’s Evatt, the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Friday 24 June. Permissions went out on Compass yesterday for our students in Years 3-6 to travel by bus to St Monica’s. We will be hosting the K-2 students from St Monica’s at St Michael’s. We will be having a liturgy at 10am in St Michael’s Church and all parents and carers are welcome to attend.

      Parent/Teacher Interviews/ Assessment and Reporting

We will be using the Microsoft Bookings platform for Parent/Teacher Interviews, next Monday 20 June, Tuesday 21st June and Wednesday 22nd June. Once a booking is made the calendar reminder is automatically added as a TEAMS meeting. Teachers will assume that parents/carers are happy with a TEAMS non-contact meeting unless otherwise advised. We now operate in a space where face to face is welcomed, however for some families the ability to meet virtually is a more family friendly alternative. I know the teachers are happy to find the options that suit families, so please be in touch with your teacher if you would prefer a face-to-face meeting option. As mentioned in previous newsletters, this is an important opportunity to discuss how your child is learning including his/her strengths and challenges and interactions with others. The interview gives families a more rounded picture of how children are progressing as the reports provide only subject rankings. Mr Webb will be travelling to Galong for the Assistant Principals Retreat on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st June so he will arrange alternative interview days/times with 5/6H families.

      Awards/ Updates

This Friday we will hand out our Harmony Awards in the Hall. Parents and carers are most welcome to come along. All students can wear Sports Uniform on Friday for the Athletics Carnival. Thank you to parents who have volunteered to assist at the Athletics Carnival, we will see how the wind blows regarding how many students we will take to the playing fields!

      System Finances

Catholic Education is updating its Finance systems and we are asking that all families assist us with our record keeping by ensuring fees and payments are up to date. We understand that financial constraints can be overwhelming for families. Please contact me directly if you are having any issues or concerns around fees or any other school payments.

      Thank you

I want to acknowledge that many in our community are unwell or continuing to grapple with ongoing symptoms of illness. My very best wishes to you all as we head into the winter season. May your hearts be warmed with the love of friends and family and occasionally if you’re lucky, a wonderful home-made soup!

      Many Blessings,
