World Behind the Text - maps

Often when looking at the world in which Scripture was written, and the geographical context of the stories, we need to have a good understanding of the places we are reading about. Teachers use maps such as these (https://www.bible-history.com/maps/ ) to help children understand the location, terrain and physical spaces we are learning about when we look at Scripture. Students in 3/4 are currently investigating the World of the Text for a piece of scripture discussing baptism of gentiles (Acts 10:44-48). What do you know about the Holy Lands that could be helpful for discussion with your children?

Mary, Help of Christians Feast

On Monday 25^th of May it is the Feast of Our Mother Mary, Help of Christians. It is a very special day in the Australian Catholic Church calendar. Mary, Help of Christians is Australia’s first patron saint and remains such even after St Mary MacKillop of the Cross was canonised and added as Australia’s first Australian born patron saint.  Children at school will take part in a special prayer service prepared by 3/4L. Traditionally in May we focus on praying the Rosary each day.

First Eucharist

This Thursday our Year 4 students will all participate in a Eucharist Retreat Day. This will be some scripture investigation, prayer and learning about how we live as Eucharistic people. I know the children are looking forward to it and I’m sure the pizza lunch isn’t the favourite event of the day.  Please note the children will bring home some resources and a small loaf of bread for reflection during the Parent/Child Formation session on Thursday evening. A reminder that the Parent/Child Formation session is an essential element of preparation for the parish sacramental program and we look forward to seeing all families online at 6:00pm Thursday evening.
