Swimming Carnival - Wednesday 10th March at Stromlo Leisure Centre

swimming_carnival.jpg

Permission notes and nomination forms are due back this Friday 12th February. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to accept late nominations. Please remember that two notes need to be returned for each child.  Some families are returning only the Nomination Form.  If you need another copy of the notes they can be found on the school website.

If you are able to assist at the carnival, your assistance will be greatly appreciated and you can indicate your preference for a role on the Nomination Form. A current WWVP is needed if you wish to help out on the day.

K- 2 Water Fun Day

water_fun_day.jpg

On Wednesday 10th March students in Years K-2 will enjoy a water fun day here at school (on this day our older students will be participating in the swimming carnival). The day will commence at recess with a ‘special recess’ and then students will rotate through water-based activities in their house groups. Thank you to those families who have returned notes.  All notes are due back this Friday, 12th February.

Belconnen Region Swimming Competition

Please be advised that the Belconnen Region Swimming Carnival will be held on Wednesday 17th March at Stromlo Leisure Centre. There is a very short turn around between our school carnival and the Belconnen Region carnival. We will endeavour to inform students as quickly as possible if they have qualified for the Belconnen Region Competition.

Our 5/6 school camp will be held at the same time as the regional competition. Please send me an email or see me at school to discuss options should your child be in 5/6 and wish to compete at the regionals.

Gymnastics Clinics

Starting next week students from K-6 will have the opportunity to participate in five weeks of gymnastics clinics.  The clinics will be on Tuesday of Weeks 3, 4, 5, 6 & 8.

Thanks to our successful Sporting Schools Grant we are able to offer these clinics to our students.  We look forward to working with the gymnastics coaches from the Canberra City Gymnastics Club.

Cross Country Carnival
Please be aware that we are holding our cross country carnival in Term 2 this year and not in Term 1. Our carnival will be held on 7th May (Term 2, Week 3).

School Sport ACT

schoolsport.jpg

We have now been advised by School Sport ACT that at this stage National level competitions are planned to go ahead where possible. The ever-changing nature of the Covid situation may mean revision of planned events at short notice. However, if you expect your child to be in contention  for selection to a state squad to compete at national level, I strongly advise parents to keep up to date with current information available through School Sport ACT. Should any new decisions be made in relation to School Sport ACT, I will keep you informed through the newsletter.

Please see the School Sport ACT webpage http://www.schoolsportaustralia.edu.au/stateterritory-school-sport-offices/school-sport-act/ or Facebook page for the most up to date information.

SCHOOL SPORT ACT TRIALSPlease keep an eye on the School Sport ACT website www.schoolsportact.asn.au for upcoming ACT trials. The process for registering can be found below. If you need any assistance registering your child please feel free to ask for assistance.

How to register your child with School Sport ACT

School Sport ACT now collects all registration information online – this is to prevent the movement to and fro of a paper note and have all information readily available to officials prior to the trial. As this process incurs a fee for data storage, system maintenance and admin, a small $5 fee payment via credit card will be required.

  1. Go to the School Sport ACT website – www.schoolsportact.asn.au
  2. Click Register (top right corner of homepage) for an Account – enter parent details and password
  3. A confirmation email will be sent to your chosen email that will contain a link that you must click on to verify the email account.
  4. Click Log In (top right hand corner of home page) enter password then click on top tab My Profile
  5. You will see a ‘dashboard’ of your information, click green box to Add Student – enter student and medical details and save.
  6. Go to the Sports Tab – choose your specific sport, click on Trial Information box then click on the Register to Trial link.
  7. Select your child’s name from the dropdown box and then enter the optional fields for Playing History, Preferred Position (if applicable) and Representative Experience. If you are already in the system, ensure your child’s school is up to date in your profile – have they moved onto High School?

Please contact me via email if you have any questions, feedback or are able to offer your assistance at any of our sporting events throughout the year.

Looking forward to another big year of sporting participation,

Erin Hardwicke
