Welcome to Week 7
November is nearly complete! Wow!
As we work through Week 7, we are reminded of the Sabbath week and committing to the idea of taking time for rest and respite for ourselves and our families.
Showcase Assembly
At St Michael’s we have many talented students, and one of the many ways we are able to celebrate these talents is through our showcase assembly. Our talented Piano students have been busy practising and recording their pieces and these will be placed on our Remote Learning Website on Friday. Families will be able to log on and watch the talents of many of our students.
Students from all classes will be given some time on Friday to watch the performances of their fellow classmates. A huge thank you goes to Mary-Liz for the continued dedication she shows to the students that she helps guide.
Rainbow Awards
This Term’s Rainbow Awards will be awarded at the Friday Morning Assembly, occurring on Friday the 4th of December. Families of those children who have been nominated will receive a letter this week.
There will be a special Rainbow Award celebration Day occurring on Thursday the 10th of December. All the students who have received rainbow awards throughout the year will be invited to wear free clothes for the day and will be treated to a special lunch and treats throughout the day. Additional information about the day will be coming out next week.
Step Up
On Friday the 18th December, which is the final school day of year, students will participate in Step Up. Students will be given the opportunity to spend an hour with their new teacher for 2021 and their new classmates. We are in the process of finalising our class lists to help make this transition seamless for all of our students. Teachers are very excited about preparing for this.
For those students and families, who will be away on the final day of Term, an email will be send out on the Friday afternoon indicating the class teacher. We will not be sending home class list with students. Please re-visit last week’s newsletter to be reminded of what grade teachers will be teaching in 2021.
Lunch and Recess
We have a growing number of students coming to the Front Office seeking additional food for recess and lunch time. We are often unable to provide students with extra food. It would be great for parents and carers to have a conversation with their children around this matter, to ensure that everyone is happy with the amount of food in lunchboxes
Phones at School
Just a reminder that if students require phones at school to contact adults after school, they need to be handed in to the Front Office at the beginning of the day and collected at the end of day. Phones are not to be in school bags or classrooms during the day.
Have a fantastic and restful week and thank you for the continued support
Kind regards,
Damien Webb - Principal (Acting)
Religious Education Curriculum
In Kindergarten we have been learning about the sacrament of Baptism and the rituals involved. We brought in pictures and shared stories of our baptisms, christenings and births and compared similarities and differences. We noticed that a lot of people had a baptismal candle, a lot of the babies wore white, the priest poured holy water on the baby’s head and lots of people came to celebrate.

Sabbath Week
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Genesis 2:2-3
This week is our Sabbath Week. As God rested after 6 days of Creation we rest this week from extra meetings and homework. We take time to recharge and thank God for the good things in our lives. We get ready to finish our term well.
Advent
We begin to prepare for the coming of baby Jesus next week. Our school community will gather in the courtyard following morning Assembly on Monday 30 November. The WSPT for the first week of Advent will be led by Kindergarten.
First Eucharist
Parents of Year 4 for 2020 who wish for their child to make their First Eucharist early in 2021 are invited to an Information Session via Zoom on Thursday 3 December at 6:00. https://cgcatholic.zoom.us/j/95777510929 This is for current Year 4 students only. Students currently in Year 3 wishing to make their First Eucharist will do so in Term 2 of 2021 and will begin preparation late in Term One.
Giving Mass & St Vinnies Christmas Appeal
On Tuesday 8 December we will be celebrating a Whole School Mass with our students. Due to Covid restrictions we will be holding the Mass in our school hall. Unfortunately we are unable to invite parents but we are looking forward to celebrating Mass with all our students gathering and our 3/4 students leading. At this Mass our school will donate all non-perishable food items and unwrapped gifts to the St Vinnies Christmas appeal. We are very grateful for the donations that families have generously donated so far and we request that they keep coming in to your child’s classroom.
Amen.
