NOTES GONE HOME THIS WEEK
• Whooping Cough note
• Schoolzine app note
Dear Parents & Carers,
This week we launched our new look newsletter through SchoolZine. Please be patience with us as we transition to this new platform. A note has come home today explaining how to download the app. This will eventually replace Skoolbag. We welcome any feedback you may have.
As we finish off Term 3, it is nice to reflect on the last 10 weeks. With Catholic Schools Week last week, classes took time to reflect on what makes St Michael's great. Year 1/2 shared with me their thoughts:
We are all kind to each other and we pray to God - Jack
We live in harmony and keep our hands off each other - Josiah
It is easy to make new friends at St Michael's - Elise
We take care of our environment by feeding the fish in the Greenhouse - Austin
We take care of each other and we love to learn - Oscar
We care about our plants - Santo
We care about other St Michael's families - Issac
We pack up after ourselves - Aiden
We share equipment when we work in groups - Josh
We have good sports equipment - Oliver
There are always fun activities to do - Stella
We help each other when we are hurt - Jimmy
We always say 'yes' when someone wants to be our partner - Ella
We treat others like we want to be treated - Jimmy D
We tidy up our rubbish so that we don't spread germs - Josiah
We have the best Principal - Milena
Our Principal is really nice - Sienna
I like Peer Support - Joel
We work well together - Lachlan
We care about our friends - Ana
There are lots of nice friends at St Michael's - Finley
I like to play soccer with my friends - Kobe
We have a beautiful greenhouse - Hugo
Our teacher is really nice - Maya
As mentioned last week, results from our annual school survey have come in. We are very pleased with the feedback. We have areas in which we need to focus on moving forward and we thank everyone for taking the time to provide this feedback. The table below shows the summary overview of parent responses. Green is above average and where we want to be. Yellow is traveling ok but an area to focus on and red (which we have none) are concerning areas.
What a way to sum up St Michael's. It has been a massive term and I truly appreciate your support. I really hope everyone has a restful and relaxing break.
Enjoy the holiday break.
Kind regards,
Pat Ellis
Principal

RECONCILIATION
Thank you to all the families who attended Mass last weekend for the commitment ceremonies. If you were unable to make Mass last weekend, please be in touch with Fr Loi to nominate a mutually suitable Mass to do this in the near future. Remember to take your prayer symbol with you.
ST MICHAEL'S FEAST DAY
Thank you to Mrs Brennan and 5/6R for your beautiful leadership of Mass to celebrate the Feast Day of St Michael. What a wonderful day of prayer, fun and learning to celebrate our patron saint.
So far this year at St Michael’s we have explored building our relationships with ourselves, God and our families. Next term we will investigate how we build and nurture positive relationships within our community.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Jack & Will D on being welcomed into the Catholic faith today through the Rite of Reception. It was a very special moment to be able to share with them and their family.
The students have been giving the new soccer goals and footballs a real work out. It's great to see them being enjoyed at recess at lunch.
Yesterday, we took delivery of our Coles Sports for Schools order. The new equipment includes; new stopwatches for our carnivals, netballs, basketballs, soccer gloves and goalie shirts, shot puts, frisbees and a variety of sensory balls. This equipment will be used at Boorowa and the netball carnival, at recess as part of Harmony play and will allow us to replace some of our older and well-used supplies. Thank you to all the parents who conscientiously collected the vouchers and to Lisa and Stuart Monro who counted and bundled all 31,000 vouchers! As you can see, the students were very excited to receive it!
We ask that no soccer balls or footballs are brought to school from home. It will give us the opportunity to monitor how the new equipment is shared and what we may need to purchase for next term.
CONGRATULATIONS
Well done to Alex (5/6B) who was the recipient of the coaches award for the u12's Canberra Stallions Basketball team.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL CORNER
The St Michael’s Primary School Fete is scheduled for Saturday 16 March 2019, 10am-2pm. As many of you know, organising a Fete takes time and takes many helpers – we need to start planning now!
In 2019, we are looking to have the following:
- Rides and amusements;
- Activities for younger children who will attend with families
(eg face painting, glitter tattoos, petting zoo, games); - Activities for older children and teens (eg chocolate trailer,
nerf shoot out); - Entertainment from other schools within our Diocese;
- An array of stalls run by class groups (eg cake stall, books,
new stalls); - A silent auction;
- A delicious array of foods (eg Devonshire tea and coffees, sweets and treats, a BBQ, pizza stall, Mexican food);
- Competitions (eg cake, Lego display), with prizes on offer.
The St Michael’s Community Council are seeking to form 'Fete Committee' and welcome school, community and Parish involvement in this. If you would like to be involved in this committee, please email council.stmichaelsps@cg.catholic.edu.au. The 2019 Fete Committee will aim to meet in Week 2 of Term 4.
If joining the committee isn't for you but you would like to help out on the day, we would love to hear from you. Please email us also. If you have any ideas or suggestions regarding the Fete, please also email us. We want the Fete to be a big community event, so we would love as much help and support as possible.
This week in Peer Support children will have an opportunity to discuss their personal qualities and strengths. The children will identify their qualities and acknowledge how they contribute to their achievements. Through activities children recognise they used their strengths to achieve success and can be encouraged to approach future activities optimistically. Ask your child to describe their own qualities and strengths so you can recognise and acknowledge these.
The K-1-2 students have been busy painting Gnomes for Floriade. A big Thank You to the Coric and Pollock families for taking the Gnomes out to Floriade and setting them up. If you are visiting Floriade in the holidays, remember to drop by the Gnomes and check them out.
Special wishes to those children who celebrate their birthday this week:
Sofia 5/6H, Aarush 3/4YM, Ari 5/6R & Owen 3/4W
We hope you have a great day!!

‘FOOTY COLOURS DAY’ - FRIDAY 28 SEPTEMBER
To mark the end of term and the end of many sporting codes that occur over the winter period, we will be hosting a ‘Footy Colours Day’ where students can wear any jersey they like, sporting team colours or casual clothes. We ask students to donate a gold coin to support the Fight Cancer Foundation.
