Dear St Michael’s Families,
At this time of year, we receive correspondence from CECG detailing fee structures for the following year. There will be changes in 2025 regarding contributions to the Canberra Catholic Schools Building Fund (CCSBF). We are attaching a letter from Ross Fox around these changes and a further letter informing you of the fees for students at St Michael’s. This will include grids to assist families who have children in Catholic High Schools who receive family fee discounts.
Your school fees and the school buildings levy are used to support the delivery of high-quality education, the funding of all staff and the maintenance and improvement of facilities at St Michael’s. As of 1 January 2025, CECG will become Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Limited (the Company) The contracts signed, enrolment forms and obligations to pay fees and school-related expenses will transfer to the company. If you have any questions about fee structures or governance, please contact governance@cg.catholic.edu.au
I sincerely thank all our families for their contributions to fees and support of our wonderful school. We will also send this communication via compass to ensure all families are aware of the fee structure.
Reports & Interviews
Semester 2 Reports will be issued via Compass in Week 8, Monday 2 December. Your child’s teacher may request an interview to discuss progress after the reports are released. Parents can book an optional appointment for an interview with teachers from Tuesday 3rd & Wednesday 4th of December through the Compass portal. The interview booking system is now live in Compass.
Save the date for St Michael’s Christmas Event
This St Michael’s community event will be held on Friday 6th December from 5-8pm. Please note: the Christmas event is a family event and students need to be accompanied by an adult.
The students are happily learning Christmas carols, and we are busy preparing raffle baskets and a variety of stalls. The raffles have great prizes and are $4 per ticket or 3 for $10. Maria P and Lynda will be selling tickets before school this week and tickets will be on sale at the event.
It’s time to put on your Christmas attire and get into the spirit! Kindergarten students are asked to come dressed as angels, stars, shepherds and kings and students from Years 1-6 can come dressed in Christmas themed clothes.
To help with the cake stall we will be sending home a cake plate with instructions. Thank you to everyone for your assistance. We are looking forward to catching up with you all to celebrate what has been a wonderful year!
My thanks to Bridgette McCann acting in the Principal role, and the leadership team supporting me as I return to full health.
Many Blessings
Judy Egan

St Michael’s Vinnies Christmas Appeal
A reminder that items for Christmas Hampers are due by Wednesday 4th December. Hampers will be blessed and presented at our Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday 5th December. The appeal helps those less fortunate in our community over the Christmas and New Year period. Your donation will help provide support for these families facing food insecurity and struggling to put food on the table this time of year. The St Michael’s community is always very generous at this time of the year as they see greater needs beyond themselves. In advance, I would like to thank everyone on behalf of St Vincent de Paul and St Michael’s School for helping us collect these donations to support the needy in our community at this time. God Bless.
The Advent SeasonAs a Church family, we have a calendar of events and seasons. The Church year begins with Advent and ends with the feast of Christ the King. On the 24th of November we celebrated Christ the King and on the 1st of December will be the first Sunday of Advent.
Advent is a season of waiting and preparing for the coming of our Jesus Christ. Like Mary awaiting the birth of her son, we too await the coming of Jesus into our lives in a fresh and new way. It’s a time to prepare our hearts and minds to receive Jesus anew. Advent is followed by the Christmas season which is a time of joy and celebration of the birth of Jesus our Saviour.
Over the coming weeks the students will be learning about Advent through scripture, stories and songs. They will explore the meaning behind the Advent wreath and calendar, Jesse Tree and other Christmas traditions. On Friday the 29th of November, our whole school will be participating in an Advent liturgy led by some of our Year 6 students as part of our preparation for Christmas. All families are warmly invited to join us from 9.15am at St. Michael’s Church.
