Confirmation Congratulations
Congratulations to our students for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation last night during a beautiful and prayerful liturgy. Thank you so much to Archbishop Christopher Prowse, Father Mick, Erika Tokich and the Parish Team for the organisation of a such a special event. You could feel the Spirit alive in our community and sense the gift of the Holy Spirit as our students were confirmed.
Robocup Champions
Last Saturday, 10 students from St Michael’s competed in the ACT Robocup Championships in the Line Rescue division. The students were challenged with the task of building and programming robots to track lines, overcome obstacles and save a pretend victim. Our students worked collaboratively and demonstrated great resilience and initiative as they competed against several other schools. By working together in the Robocup challenge, our students develop their skills in team building, persistence, Mathematics and problem solving. Congratulations to our teams who achieved outstanding results, picking up 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! Thank you to Jessica Hallahan for her time and leadership of our students we are so proud of Ms Hallahan and our wonderful students!
Catalyst & High Impact Teaching Practice
Today, Brooke Wardana from Shaping Minds continued her work coaching our teachers in the implementation of evidenced based practices. Our teachers spent the day observing Brooke teaching direct explicit instruction lessons with a focus on High Impact Teaching Practice (HITP). Brooke observed our teachers and gave them feedback to support their growth. I sincerely thank our teachers for their dedication to personal improvement in classroom teaching. We know that better teaching leads to improved learning outcomes for students who are at the heart of all we do at St Michael’s. Brooke was most impressed with the quality of the instruction she saw and the engagement and learning progress of our students. If you would like to read more about Catalyst and HITP please access information at the following site.

Sharing Our Learning
Come along for a relaxed visit after school next Wednesday 25th September 3:15pm- 5:15pm to look at all the wonderful learning that’s been happening at St Michael’s. Be part of your child’s learning and give your child 2 stars and a wish for their future progress. This is a great opportunity for families to share student learning and enjoy some positive time together at school. This year we will have students demonstrating the filming studio in our Library Hub with afternoon tea. We were able to fund resources for this hub by securing a grant from the ACT Education Directorate’s Non-Government School Parent Engagement Grants Program. Thank you to our ICT leaders who will be part of this sharing.
Other school happenings
Other exciting events this term include St Michael’s Feast Day- Friday 27 September.
The privilege of wearing non-uniform this day is to donate a raffle item for our St Michael’s Christmas, Friday 6 December. Please see event reminders appearing on Facebook and via Compass for further details.
Sporting excellence
Congratulations also to our 3 students who achieved amazing results at the ACT Athletics Carnival yesterday. Mahli, Olivia and Nicole were a credit to themselves and to St Michael’s -great effort girls!

Religious Education News - Erika Tokich
Confirmation
At the beginning of the year our candidates, along with their parents’ support, expressed their desire to join their Catholic community more fully by receiving the final Sacrament of Initiation, to be confirmed. After pledging their commitment, the candidates and their families have been preparing themselves by learning more about God, the Holy Spirit and also about their faith community.
Yesterday, we celebrated as our St Michael’s students renewed their commitment to Jesus and were confirmed. They have each been revisited and strengthened by the Holy Spirit. They are now ready to use their spiritual gifts to continue helping Jesus to carry out his mission to love and serve God. Congratulations to all our Confirmation Candidates for the way they reverently and faithfully conducted themselves last night.
Thank you to the families, staff, sacramental coordinator Liz Dwyer, Fr Mick and Archbishop Christopher Prowse who have supported the students and have been instrumental in this journey.
Now that these students have been blessed, strengthened, and confirmed by the Holy Spirit we pray:
Loving and faithful God
We ask you to bless our recently confirmed students. May they remain constantly curious in their pursuit of knowledge and truth, may they use their gifts and talents to spread your joy and love throughout the earth and may they inspire and motivate others to know, love and follow Jesus.
Amen.
Fruits of the Holy Spirit – Self Control
This term the students have explored the fruits of Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness and Gentleness. This fortnight, they will begin exploring the fruit of Self Control. Self-control is about having mastery over one’s own behaviour. At times we feel like being mean and grumpy. Self-control is choosing not to give in to these temptations. Just like all the fruits, self-control needs to be practiced and nurtured. St. John Vianney, preached that “it is by resistance to temptations that we give God proof of our love.” Giving up something we like can be a sign of our love for God and for others. We pray that the Holy Spirit gives our students the fruit of self-control to guide them in life and to treat others with self-control.
St Michael’s Feast Day
The Feast Day of St Michael is Friday the 29th of September. St Michael is an Archangel (chief angel) whose name means ‘one who is like God’. In the Old Testament, Michael came to help Daniel after he had a vision. In the New Testament, Michael led the faithful angels to fight evil. St Michael is seen as a protector of the church. At our school St Michael helps to look after us and to make right choices.
We look forward to celebrating The Feast Day of St Michael with a whole school liturgy on Friday the 27th of September. All families are most welcome to join us for the liturgy at 9:15am in the church. Following the liturgy, students will be participating in activities to enrich their understanding of St Michael our Archangel who protects us. In lieu of wearing their uniform, the students are asked to bring in donations to assist with our Christmas Raffles. Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
