Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy National Science Week!
I am proud to say Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) are well and truly alive and celebrated at St Michael’s. Students in classes experience the joy of Scientific discovery and nurture their natural curiosity about the world around them.
Across the school we explore robotics, coding and programming of devices ranging from Beebots to Spheros. These devices provide creative enquiry opportunities for the students to investigate and learn. Skills learnt in small group sessions are transferred to other learning areas. Lunchtime clubs using ICT skills such as coding, are also provided as learning opportunities for students.
Currently we have a small group preparing for a Robotics Competition later in the year.
I thank Jess Hallahan for her passion and enthusiasm supporting this team and helping them discover the power of technology to solve simple problems.
It is experiences like these that help our students grow and learn to become solvers of societies complexities later in life.
I’m looking forward to our Science Showcase tomorrow afternoon from 2:30pm-3:30pm. All welcome!
Thank you for your continued support.
Many blessings,
Congratulations to the following students who achieved a Harmony Award this week.
Well done!!

Fruits of the Holy Spirit - Faithfulness
Students will continue exploring the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how they can help and guide us to be more like Jesus. In weeks 5 and 6 we will be focusing on the fruit of faithfulness. Faithfulness is being loyal to God and his teachings. We can show faithfulness to others by being truthful and loyal like Jesus. Our Harmony Awards will celebrate students who display faithfulness. We pray that our students grow in their faith and confidence in God’s promises.
Thank You
This week I am grateful to have returned safely to St Michael’s after Long Service Leave. My leave was spent travelling through Europe with extended family. The time was truly a blessing and many special memories were made. I’d like to extend my thanks to those who continued working in my absence including Judy Egan, Bridgette McCann, the Year One/Two Team and Emily O’Rourke who did an amazing job acting in the REC role. Thank you also to everyone who has given me such a warm welcome back and have made me feel valued and appreciated. St Michael’s is such a wonderful community.
The Assumption of Mary
The Feast of the Assumption is a Holy Day of obligation celebrated on the 15th of August every year. The Assumption of Mary is a teaching of the Catholic Church, which states that after the Holy Mother of Jesus died, she was resurrected, glorified, and her soul was taken to heaven. The Assumption signals the end of Mary's life on Earth and her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. Tomorrow at 9:30am students in years 3-6 will celebrate mass at St Michael’s Church in honour of Mary. All families are most welcome to join us.
Prayer for the Assumption of Mary
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
