Message from MSP Photos - Update!
St Michael’s Primary school 2023 photos are currently at the Lab being built. We are awaiting a digital proof from our lab that will be sent to the school for approval.
The photos will be delivered to the school early Term 3.
Thanks you from MSP!
Dear Parents and Carers,
As usual we are finishing the term in the next 2 weeks with a variety of wonderful events.
Sacrament of Eucharist this weekend
This weekend our Year 4 students will be receiving their First Holy Communion as we celebrate the Sacrament of Eucharist. Congratulations to these students, their families and to Father Mick, Erika Tokich, the Parish Team and our Year 3/4 staff. We hope it is a very grace-filled and special time for all our students.
School Disco
Tomorrow evening is our School Disco from 5-7pm. Tickets are going home today and our DJ Ren is excited and ready to go. Thank you to Julie Halley and her family for her organization and coordination and preparation of party bags. Thanks also to Hannah McNamara and Jess Stefanovic for putting together party bags with some wonderful helpers on Tuesday. We are very grateful for parents who have also agreed to assist on the night. Sincere thanks to teachers who have also volunteered to join us on the evening. It is wonderful to be part of such a generous community.
Rainbow Awards
As the term draws to an end we will also be presenting our Rainbow Awards at our final assembly on Friday 30th June at 9am. Rainbow awards are a way of recognising students who demonstrate a consistent commitment over the term to our mission and vision giving their best efforts both academically and in their respect for others.
Class Contacts/Frozen meals
Thank you to those parents who nominated themselves as class contacts. Teachers have sent home these details via compass. Class contacts keep in touch with families to ensure we can support each other at various times e.g. new baby, illness etc. if you are aware of any families that need assistance please let us know. One way we can help families is by cooking a meal to freeze or purchasing a frozen meal. If you are able to prepare any meals we are very happy to accept them.
Community Council
The Community Council is a parent advisory body that supports the Principal and school community.
We have a tradition at St Michael’s of a wonderful bunch of people who are generous and supportive. However, we are in need of some more members. The council meets digitally twice a term and if you would like to join us please complete the nomination form attached to the newsletter.
Hats off during winter in Canberra
In Canberra sun protection is required between August and May. The end of May is 'Hats Off Day' whilst the beginning of August is 'Hats On Again' for all of us. Students are currently not required to wear a school hat during play.
Robocup!
Huge thanks to Ms Jessica Hallahan who volunteered her time over the long weekend to supervise some of our students in ROBOCUP. We value these STEM opportunities and I know how much the students enjoyed this session.
Finally, thank you to our families who have booked in for parent teacher interviews, we welcome all families to take up this opportunity.
I look forward to catching up at the disco.
Many Blessings,
Judy Egan

Parish Sacramental Program 2023
Sacrament of First Eucharist - will be celebrated across the four Sunday Parish Masses this weekend:
Congratulations to the 58 candidates in our Parish celebrating the Sacrament. Please keep them in your prayers.
Home booklets - should then be returned to the school (with the last page ‘Parents’ Discernment of Readiness’ completed) by Thursday this week – the booklets will be signed and stamped with the ‘parish stamp’ and returned to the candidates at their First Eucharist celebration.
Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on 5, 6 & 7 September 2023.
Registrations will open on Monday 26 June 2023 via the parish Qkr! App.
Please start to consider the ‘Saint’s Name’ and ‘Sponsor’ with your child, as these are requirements on the registration form.
The sponsor should be a baptised catholic and not a parent. The role of the sponsor should be someone who has an influence in the child’s life and can fill in the gaps where the parent is unable to.
Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated in term 1, 2024.
For further Information – please contact the Sacramental Program Coordinator at sc.belconnennorth@cg.org.au or check the parish website at www.cg.org.au/belconnennorth

Eucharist Retreat Day
Last Thursday was a special day for all students in year 4 as they participated in the Eucharist Retreat Day. The day was planned to deeply explore what it means to receive the sacrament of Eucharist. We began the day by celebrating mass. During mass the students gathered around the altar as Fr Mick explained the ritual of blessing the Eucharist. In class we reflected on our focus scripture from Luke’s Gospel, ‘The Last Supper’ which is key in understanding the Eucharist. We used images of The Last Supper to pray and create artworks. Fr Mick spent time with the students throughout the day sharing his wisdom. Most importantly we spent time reflecting on what the Eucharist means to us and how we can be Eucharistic people.
Please keep the Eucharist candidates in your prayers as they will be receiving Eucharist at this weekend’s masses.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day
Mother Mary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, after which our parish is named, is known for miracles and answers to prayers. On Tuesday the 27th of June, we will join with St Monica’s School to celebrate the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day as a Parish community. K-2 students will stay at St Michael’s and all 3-6 students will gather at St Monica’s. Students at both schools will celebrate mass and participate in activities to deepen their knowledge of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Watch this space for more information.
Vinnies Winter Appeal
The 2023 National Vinnies Winter Appeal has officially been launched. This year the focus is on older women experiencing homelessness. Vinnies data tells us that “The number of older women experiencing homelessness across the country has grown rapidly in recent years, and continues to increase, accounting for almost double the growth rate for all people experiencing homelessness in Australia.” These women are someone’s grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aunties, dear friends, and like all of us, they deserve to be safe, happy, clothed and sheltered. In August next term, we will have a Winter Woolies day to raise funds and donations to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal.
