Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Thursday, 10th November, I attended the Rite of Commissioning of Graduate Teachers at St Christopher’s Cathedral. Our very own, Shianne Sahariv together with 60 colleague graduates were blessed and consecrated to the ministry of education in the name of Jesus. I congratulate Shianne and have already witnessed the way she makes a positive difference in the lives of her students, families, and staff at St Michael’s. Shianne brings many gifts to our community, and we are blessed to have her with us.
Perth Immersion
Last week, Miss Jessica Hallahan joined a group of Canberra/Goulburn educators on a trip to Perth to examine Explicit and Direct Instruction (EDI) in Perth Schools. The High Impact Teaching Practice (HITP) Immersion was a three-day intensive offering for selected teachers that included school visits, classroom observations and change journey presentations from Perth school leaders. The group experienced the full suite of embedded Science of Learning and Science of Reading practices in Primary and Secondary school environments. The group worked with professional facilitators to unpack these and understand what the implications could hold for their schools. Jess is excited to share with us many of the insights she gained around effective instructional practices. All St Michael’s staff are committed to best teaching practice to ensure our classrooms are places where students are actively engaged in relevant, meaningful, and challenging tasks responsive to a range of learning needs. I thank Jess sincerely for attending and for her ongoing leadership in this area.
Classes for 2023
It’s the time of year when we are sorting class lists for 2023. Teachers are in the prime position to make judgements about where students are best placed for optimum learning including taking into consideration individual needs, friendships, etc. If you have any concerns, please email me directly by Monday, 21st November- Judith.egan@cg.catholic.edu.au.

Religious Education
RE in Kindergarten
Students in Kindergarten continue to explore who Jesus is and why he is important to the Catholic Church. Students also held discussions about important celebrations held in the Catholic Church and their own lives.
There were some insightful wonderings and discussions about Jesus.
