Friday, 1 July | Week 10 Pupil Free Day | |
Dear Parents/Carers,
We have certainly been hit with a blast of Winter weather this week, unfortunately impacting on the grounds for our Athletics Carnival. We will aim for next Friday, 17 June, depending on the weather, if it is miserable, we will take across runners for a scaled down version.
Semester One Reporting/Interviews
A reminder that Catholic Education is now issuing your child’s Semester One report via the Compass Parent Portal in Week 10. If you have not updated your email information and downloaded the parent portal or have any questions, please contact our front office staff. You will have the opportunity to book an interview to discuss your child’s report in week 9.
Staff illness and 5/6 Teacher
You will be aware that many schools are grappling with staff illness and the lack of relief teachers. We are being impacted and I thank the staff for the way they have worked with me to ensure students have highest priority. The Pupil free day this Friday 10 June and the last school day of this term 1 July is an acknowledgement from Catholic Education that staff have been unable to access planning and release time and are working above and beyond under difficult circumstances.
We continue to advertise for a teacher in our 5/6 classes. If you have any contacts or know of anyone who would be able to join our community please be in touch.
Uniform
Thank you to our families who support our school by ensuring students are in full school uniform. We are happy for the children to wear beanies, coats, scarves, and gloves but ask that where possible, they are navy coloured. Black school shoes are to be worn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and runners are only to be worn on sports days- Tuesdays and Thursdays. If your child is not wearing the correct uniform, please advise your child’s teacher. We have many second-hand items in our clothing pool that are available for a gold coin donation. We encourage the children to take pride in their school uniform as it represents St Michael’s.
Thank you for your continued support
Many Blessings
Year 5/6 CAMP Update
We are happy to announce that we have been able to secure a booking for our Year 5/6 Camp which was cancelled due to COVID restrictions in Term One this year. Information has been sent home via COMPASS around a camp booking for Term 4, 2022.
Active Streets for Schools Program
Increased traffic is common around schools for short periods each morning and afternoon during the peak periods.
One way our school is trying to beat the congestion is through the Active Streets program. More people walking and riding to school will help to create ‘active streets’ – where drivers are more aware of our school and slow down when children are present.
You can show your support by driving less or avoiding the main carparks at the school. Try one of the part way drop-off locations on our school map or walking or riding the entire way. It doesn’t need to be every day, choosing to walk or ride once or twice a week is a great starting point and will make a significant difference to create a safer school environment for our students.
Congratulations to the following students who achieved a Harmony Award in Week 7. Awards will be handed out to students next Friday 17 June.
Well done!!

Religious Education in the School
Thank you to all those parents and carers who could attend the Eucharist Parent Information Night last Thursday at St Michael’s Church. It was lovely to come together face to face as a parish and share what the students had learnt on their retreat day. We hope the bread was delicious!
This Tuesday, all Eucharist candidates attended Reconciliation in preparation for their sacrament.
Religious Life of the School
Sunday’s Gospel - Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost is sometimes called the birthday of the Church. The Gospel for Pentecost reminds us that the Church begins with the command to forgive. Within the family, the domestic Church, we learn how to forgive and we learn to accept forgiveness. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that enables us to do both. This week is a fitting time to share a family celebration of reconciliation.
As you gather together as a family, sit quietly for a few minutes, inviting all to reflect upon their need to forgive and to receive forgiveness. If there is a situation or issue within the family that needs attention, spend some time reflecting upon the concern and how your family might address it. Read together today's Gospel, John 20:19-23. Talk together about how Jesus gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us in the work of forgiveness and to bring us peace. Pray together Sunday’s psalm (Psalm 104:1,24,29-31,34), or pray to the Holy Spirit, asking that the Holy Spirit help your family. Share with one another the sign of peace.
First Eucharist
- Eucharist booklets (with the last page, the ‘Parents’ Discernment of Readiness’ completed) are due back to school by Friday 10th June for Fr Loi to sign. These will be returned to candidates at the celebration of the sacrament.

POSTPONED - St Michael’s Athletics Carnival
Tomorrow's athletics carnival has been postponed due to the poor weather which meant we were not able to have the lines marked.
We have moved the carnival to next Friday, 17th June.
A few of our parent volunteers are no longer able to assist and so we are in need of a few more helpers on the day. if you are able to assist, could you please speak to Lynda or contact Erin Hardwicke.
We anticipate the carnival will run from 9am - 12pm. Depending on the weather conditions on the day we may only take the competitive runners 8 years and above across to the oval and our younger students will remain at school. We appreciate your support and flexibility regarding the format and scheduling of the events on the day.
We are looking forward to a fun carnival and seeing which house will be our 2022 champion.
