Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to our students and families who are preparing for the Sacrament of Eucharist. This Thursday there will be a Retreat Day and an important Information Night for families in St Michael’s Church at 6pm. Thank you to Father Loi, Miss Frogley and Miss Lewis and the team from St Monica’s including the Parish Team. This is a truly beautiful Sacrament and we wish grace and peace to all.
I wanted to share with you artwork by Leah Brideson, Kamilaroi Woman born on Ngunnawal Country, and Aunty of one of our St Michael’s students. Leah painted this beautiful piece for our St Michael’s community it hangs in the school foyer.
In describing her painting Leah says;
This painting represents the relationship and responsibility we have to our Earth, our Mother. We need to take care of our Earth so it in turn can take care of us. We need to learn from her, nurture her and help her thrive so she too stays full of life and continues to provide us with the necessary things we need to live.
People from all walks of life are getting along, sharing stories and journeys with our Elders, the original caretakers, in a respectful and peaceful way. The representations of Country and water are our lifeline and are central to our conversations and being. Earth is our Mother.
May all Australians walk together to build supportive relationships on our Reconciliation journey, you are most welcome to join us this Friday 3 June 9am in the Church for whole school prayer organised by Year 1/2.
Many Blessings
Judy Egan

Year 5/6 CAMP Update
We are happy to announce that we have been able to secure a booking for our Year 5/6 Camp which was cancelled due to COVID restrictions in Term One this year. Information has been sent home via COMPASS around a camp booking for Term 4, 2022.
Active Streets for Schools Program
Walking or riding to school regularly is a great way for children to receive their recommended one hour of physical activity every day. It also helps to ensure they arrive energised and ready to learn.
Our school is participating in the Active Streets for Schools program, which is helping to make the environment around our school safer and more accessible for active travel.
Did you know we have a ride or walk to school map? If your child hasn’t received a hard copy, you can download and print the map from the Transport Canberra website.
The map includes a selection of safe routes to school and highlights ‘part way’ drop off or collection points for families that need to drive but want to avoid congestion at the school gate and allow their children to be physically active for part of the trip.
Help our school engage in Active Streets by encouraging your children to be active. Students will enjoy the health benefits while you enjoy avoiding school traffic during peak times. Do you have an infrastructure suggestion that will make it safer and easier to walk or ride to school (e.g. a new footpath or crossing)? Contact Transport Canberra to make a suggestion.
Congratulations to the following students who achieved a Harmony Award in Week 6. Awards will be handed out to students during the day on Friday.
Well done!!

Religious Education in the School
On Thursday our Year 4 students will take part in a retreat day in preparation for the celebration of their first Eucharist. The day will allow the students time to discuss and reflect upon the scripture of Feeding the Five Thousand. Coming together we will look at the significance of bread as a symbol and a shared meal.
Religious Life of the School
Sunday’s Gospel- Sunday, 29th May was the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord. Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.
‘And now I am sending down to you what the Father has promised. Stay in the city then, until you are clothed with the power from on high.’
Then he took them out as far as the outskirts of Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. Now as he blessed them, he withdrew from them and was carried up to heaven. They worshipped him and then went back to Jerusalem full of joy; and they were continually in the Temple praising God.
Parents are always helping their children prepare for something, whether that consists of getting ready for school, preparing for an exam, or making preparations to go on vacation. In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus prepares his disciples for his Passion, death, and Resurrection. He promises his Holy Spirit, gives them the gift of his peace, and tells them not to be troubled.

Regional Cross Country
Congratulations to all our students who competed at the Regional Cross Country last Thursday. Thank you to Mr Webb and Miss Lewis for taking our team.
A very big congratulations to Mahli (3/4L) and Josiah (5/6Y) who ran in the top 10 for their respective events and will compete at the ACT Championships on Wednesday 15 June. We wish you all the very best!
St Michael’s Athletics Carnival
Next Thursday, 9th June is our school athletics carnival. It will be held at Kaleen Playing Fields (behind Kaleen Primary). This year we will run a shortened program with only the track events taking place. We will complete shot put and discus at school the following week.
A very big thank you to the parents who have volunteered to assist on the day. We are very appreciative of your time and generosity. If the office does not have a copy of your current WWVP Card, we ask that you please forward a copy to Lynda as soon as possible. Please contact Lynda if you do not currently hold a WWVP.
If volunteers could please meet Mrs Hardwicke at the ovals at 9am. Remember to dress warmly!
Please be reminded that there will NOT be any food available at the carnival. Students will need to bring fruit, recess and lunch as they normally would.
We anticipate the carnival will run from 9am - 12pm. Depending on the weather conditions on the day we may only take the competitive runners 8 years and above across to the oval and put younger students will remain at school. We appreciate your support and flexibility regarding the formate and scheduling of the events on the day.
We are looking forward to a fun carnival and seeing which house will be our 2022 champion.
