Dear Parents and Carers,
We celebrated a beautiful liturgy with our community of Mother’s last Friday, there are some lovely photos on Facebook. It was wonderful to be together and back in our Church. I was incredibly proud of your children as they joined in so prayerfully and remembered how our Church is a sacred space. Parenting is a tough job and we don’t often get to hear the amazing things our children do. One of the things I have said to teachers at St Michael’s is to make it a habit to tell you when they see your child doing something you can be proud of. We teach our children to be brave and to make the choices that build relationships. We aim to be the hope in the world and the rainbow in the sky, so that we see faith, hope and trust in God will see us through. In the words of our School Prayer,
I am a child of God.
Today I will walk proudly because I am loved.
I will use my eyes to see the challenges before me
I will use my words to build caring relationships.
I will use my ears to hear your message.
Jesus, today I invite you into my heart,
So that I may live in harmony with those around me
And have the courage to face the things that I find difficult.
Amen
Blessings for the coming week,
Judy Egan

LETTER TO PARENTS AND CARERS OF ST MICHAEL’S SCHOOL FROM THE DIRECTOR OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION; ROSS FOX
Dear Parents and Carers,
I have authorised two extra pupil free days in Term 2 for all schools in the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn to support teachers who have been carrying extra teaching loads due to the COVID-related staff absences.
Like many other school systems, in Term 1 our schools had significant staff absences. Casual teachers were in short supply, so teachers and principals covered classes of absent teachers. They went without their usual allocated release from day-to-day teaching and planning, professional learning and administration.
Despite these challenges, our staff sought to maintain the highest quality of teaching, learning and pastoral care of students.
I have asked each school to engage with their parent and carer communities to give you timely notice of these pupil free days.
Included in this letter are further details from your Principal.
Ross Fox
Director, Catholic Education Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn
TO ST MICHAEL’S PARENTS AND CARERS
Following this communication from Ross Fox, Director of Catholic Education, the following 2 days will be Pupil Free at St Michael’s.
Friday 10 June- Week 7
Friday 1 July- Week 10
These days will be used to allow staff to plan teaching and learning tasks as part of our High Impact Teaching Practices including Daily Review. Staff will also be given time that has been lost to work on data, moderate for reporting purposes and plan and prepare for interviews with parents.
Please contact us directly if you are unable to care for your children on these days via Office.stmichaelsps@cg.catholic.edu.au

Religious Education in the School
This week staff had a chance to collaborate on a new Scope and Sequence for Religious Education that will help with planning new and exciting learning programs for students that incorporate High Impact Teaching Practices. We are excited to see how the Scope and Sequence will develop over the year and support students in their Religious Education learning across the school.
Religious Life of the School
Sunday’s Gospel
Not only can we recognise family members' voices, we can also read the tone of their voices and know something about how they are feeling. In our relationship with Jesus, we know Jesus' voice and are called to follow. Jesus doesn't just bring us closer to the Father, Jesus puts us directly into contact with God the Father, removing all distance between us. In the Gospel of John, Jesus identifies so closely with the Father that he tells us that they are one—not just close, but actually one. Knowing Jesus means knowing the Father.
Read with your family Sunday’s Gospel, John 10:27-30. Ask your family members to talk about some ways that Jesus brings them closer to God and closer to one another. Pray together the Acts of Faith, Hope, and Love.
Mother’s Day WSPT by 3/4
Well done to 3/4 for a beautiful WSPT last Friday. The students read so well and we were very impressed with the reverence shown by all students in attendance. A special thank you to all those parents, carers, families and friends that could attend. It was lovely to see everyone back together again after so long! Let’s hope this is the beginning of more community events to come!
First Communion
Commitment Masses occurred over the past two weekends and students completing their First Communion were required to attend. There will be no more Commitment Masses and registrations have closed. Please contact Sue Collins at the Parish Office if you have any questions about First Communion.

This event is an opportunity for families to learn more about the Catholic School Parent Council and the ways it provides advocacy, leadership, representation, and support for families in our Archdiocese. There will also be an opportunity to discover some practical ways for families to engage in their child’s learning.
Registration details are on the flier attached.
