Dear Parents/Carers,
A highlight for me this week has been sharing lots of check-ins with the classes. I have seen many pets, heard lots of stories and saw some amazing Book Week creations. As adults we need to try to keep our mental health and wellbeing on track so we can take care of those around us. I’m reminded of the safety procedures when flying- put on your own oxygen mask before you get your child’s mask out because you need to breathe!
CE have provided us lots of supportive information about looking after Your Mental Health during Lockdown that is attached to this newsletter. A reminder if you or your family are needing some assistance our School Counsellor is Prisca Chirigo, Prisca.Chirigo@catholiccare.cg.org.au
Thank you for the way you are supporting your children and connecting with us to ensure we maintain access to quality learning opportunities during this difficult time. In this newsletter there are PDFs related to using MS Teams on iPad, Chromebooks, and laptops. I hope this is helpful. Our primary platform for remote learning is our St Michael’s Remote learning Website. This is the first point of contact for the daily learning plan. We are using MS Teams for daily check-ins and small group check-ins. I thank everyone in our community as we are asked to be extra patient and recognise and acknowledge that everyone is doing the best they can under difficult circumstances.
- Visit this link and look at your child’s daily learning plan. (https://sites.google.com/cg.catholic.edu.au/remotelearningkaleenstmichaels/home)
- Open MS Teams and check the calendar for your child’s daily check-in time as well as their small group session. Children on Personalised Plans will also have a Classroom Support check-in.
- Complete learning tasks and upload to Seesaw (K-4) or Google classrooms (5,6).
We are currently in the Week 7 Learning Plan. Each week we will publish explicit learning opportunities for students across Year Levels.
If you are looking for further resources, the ACT Government has published this site for supporting families during remote learning.

I am aware of many of our families who are in quarantine and many others who are negotiating the rules around ensuring they are complying with ACT Health directives. I encourage you to follow these directives and keep yourselves and your children safe, everyone doing their part will support an end to lockdown.
Most importantly keep connected, stay in touch with your teacher, let us know if there are any families who need our help, and finally a shout out to the Malhotra Family, Shivi (Kinder) Uncle Gary.
May we all do our part to be people of harmony during a time where, more than ever, we need kindness, understanding and forgiveness.
Congratulations to Maria in 1/2 H and her family, Maria has a new baby brother called Joseph.
Many Blessings, stay safe and well,
Judy Egan
Religious Education
Visio Divina
One technique for exploring and praying with the Scriptures is Visio Divina. It invites the participant to look deeply at an image (usually an icon or holy artwork), learn a little about the background to the piece of art and pray upon it. This week Monica Culas, the parish Youth Minister, has curated one focusing on Sunday’s Scripture. I invite you to take some time with your children exploring this form of prayer and learning about Scripture.
Religious Life
Prayer
Included in the Remote Learning website are daily opportunities for prayer for your children. We ask that you make some time each day to continue our daily practice of prayer. If accessing the online offerings is challenging, I invite you to simply engage with Christian Meditation or pray the Our Father as a family.
Fathers’ Day
As we cannot be together at this time, we are unable to hold a shared liturgy in celebration of Fathers as is our practice. Next Friday however the daily prayer in the Remote Learning Plan will be focused on prayers for Dads (and all important men in our lives). Happy Fathers’ Day to all the wonderful men in our St Michael’s community.
Confirmation
Our Parent/Child Formation Evening will be held on Teams at 5:00pm on Tuesday 31st August. A link will be sent this week. All participants and at least one adult family member are asked to take part in this formation session. This will conclude the preparations for Confirmation for you and your family and will ensure we are ready to celebrate the sacrament as soon as we are able. At this point as the churches are all closed, we have no firm date for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, but we will keep you updated as soon as we have any new information.

Student Welfare - Shahenie Burns
Student Welfare By: Shahenie Burns
WHEN OUR KIDS FEEL ANXIOUS & SCARED
It’s a challenging time for us all at the moment. Navigating kid’s emotions can be tough and having the right answer as a parent can be difficult.
While looking for student welfare resources I found this poster on the Wholehearted School Counseling Instagram page. Having school aged kids myself, I found these discussion points helpful.
Shahenie Burns
Student Welfare Officer
Special wishes to those children who celebrate their birthday this week:
Pema KL, Suraya 3/4Y, Clarisse 5/6K, Aveline 1/2H & Misha 3/4L
