Dear Parents/Carers
This Friday morning we will have our Harmony Awards and a prayer of recognition for the Mother’s, Carers and Special Women in our community. There will be a small treat handed to all Mother's during the drive through and at the morning gathering. It is true that over the years Mother’s Day has become a commercialised event. Put simply, it is a time to honour the love and sacrifice of wonderful women in our lives both present and past. We offer our love and support to everyone in our community celebrating Mother’s Day, especially those who experience sadness at this time.
Open Day
Today from 9.30am-6pm we are having our Open Day. We are very proud of our school leaders who will be conducting parent/carer tours throughout the day. Please let your friends and family know they are most welcome to attend.
Cross Country
We are looking forward to Cross Country this Friday 7 May (weather permitting). The children will gather at 9.30am on our school oval following awards and prayer. Thank you to our parent volunteers, the classes have been enjoying practising the course.
I hope all mother’s, carers and special women in our lives have a wonderful day on Sunday.
Many Blessings
Judy Egan
Compass Parent Portal
The Compass Parent Portal is a secure information system being rolled out by CE across schools in the archdiocese. The parent Portal allows you to receive information about your child’s school and their progress. It will give you access to school reports, messages, classroom blogs and the ability to submit attendance notes. The portal is accessible via the web and the Compass School Manager App (via the App store on your device). This Parent Portal will make engaging with your child’s school faster, easier and more secure. The links to the portal are below. Once you have downloaded the Compass Parent Portal App this will be the only place to notify the school of student absences. There will be a transition period to give everyone time to access the parent portal as Schoolzine will no longer be used for notification of absences.
Log in details will be emailed out to all parents by close of business today.
The links to download the Portal are below:

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jdlf.compass&hl=en_AU
If you require any assistance, please contact Lisa Monro at the Front Office 62414022 or email office.
Our new online enrolment option has gone live! If you have a younger child ready to enrol in Kindergarten for 2022, please follow the enrolment link on our website (see below) and enrol. Alternatively, we have paper enrolment forms in the Front Office.
https://www.stmichaelsps.act.edu.au/enrolment
If you know of any other potential enrolments, please mention our school as an excellent option. To ensure class structures/sizes remain as they are, we do require more enrolments moving forward. Our enrolment zoned areas are Kaleen, Giralang, Lawson and Crace, however under varying circumstances, we can accept from outside our area. Please encourage all to ring the Front Office to arrange a tour and chat.
Our official Open Day is today, Wednesday 5 May, where families can come to the school at anytime between 9.30am and 6pm for a tour. We can however arrange a tour at anytime if that does not suit.
Thank you in advance for promoting our school to the wider community.
Religious Education Curriculum
In 5/6 students are researching the Seven Sacraments in the Catholic Church. Can you learn with them? Some great questions they will investigate include:
Which sacraments are the sacraments of initiation?
Which are to do with healing?
Can anyone receive all seven sacraments in their life?
Which sacraments do you receive only once?
Which ones can you receive regularly?
How often can you receive these sacraments?
What are the symbols and actions associated with each sacrament?

First Eucharist
Thank you to the parents who participated in last Thursday’s adult faith formation and information session for First Eucharist. Thank you to all the families who have already attended a Mass over the weekend and made their family commitment for preparation for First Eucharist. If you have not done so yet please ensure you do so this coming weekend. We will keep the candidates in our prayers in the coming weeks.
Mothers’ Day
Due to ongoing COVID restrictions it is still not possible for us all to gather in our church with parents and the wider parish community so for Mothers’ Day we will hold a special prayer liturgy as part of Assembly on Friday morning 7th May. All Mums are warmly invited to join us in the courtyard for this prayer time that will be prepared and lead by 5/6K.

SCHOOL SPORT ACT TRIALS – Please keep an eye on the School Sport ACT website https://schoolsportact.org.au/ for upcoming ACT trials. The process for registering can be found below. If you need any assistance registering your child please feel free to ask for assistance.
How to register your child with School Sport ACT
School Sport ACT now collects all registration information online – this is to prevent the movement to and fro of a paper note and have all information readily available to officials prior to the trial. As this process incurs a fee for data storage, system maintenance and admin, a small $5 fee payment via credit card will be required.
- Go to the School Sport ACT website – https://schoolsportact.org.au/
- Click Register (top right corner of homepage) for an Account – enter parent details and password
- A confirmation email will be sent to your chosen email that will contain a link that you must click on to verify the email account.
- Click Log In (top right hand corner of home page) enter password then click on top tab My Profile
- You will see a ‘dashboard’ of your information, click green box to Add Student – enter student and medical details and save.
- Go to the Sports Tab – choose your specific sport, click on Trial Information box then click on the Register to Trial link.
- Select your child’s name from the dropdown box and then enter the optional fields for Playing History, Preferred Position (if applicable) and Representative Experience. If you are already in the system, ensure your child’s school is up to date in your profile – have they moved onto High School?
Please contact me via email if you have any questions, feedback or are able to offer your assistance at any of our sporting events throughout the year.
Looking forward to another big year of sporting participation,
Erin Hardwicke
